The Zebra Migration

In another part of Botswana, at certain times of the year, a very different landscape reveals itself.

The Makgadikgadi Pans open into vast grasslands transformed by the summer rains into wide expanses of fresh, vibrant green. The horizon stretches endlessly, sky and earth meeting in a way that creates an immense feeling of space and freedom.

Here, the zebra migration unfolds.

Large herds of zebra move across the open plains — pounding across the grasslands with the wind moving through their manes, creating a striking flow of black and white stripes across the landscape.

At times, these herds gather in large numbers, filling the plains with movement and energy. Among them, an abundance of young foals brings vitality and new life.

Clouds build and shift across enormous skies while the changing African light transforms the landscape moment by moment, creating scenes that feel raw, dramatic, and deeply atmospheric.
